ARTIST BIO:
Wei Zhou is a multimedia artist, a Ph.D. researcher at University of Reading working on her thesis: Seeking for emotional Asylum: immigrants’ melody in the space of Cinema. Her work engages with video making, amateur film archives, family photographs, sound design and others. Many of her works try to explore the present meaning of history, and how the past is stored and transformed into intimate memory and collective memory. And what conversations she as an artist can initiate with that? It is important for her to ask these questions as a long-time expatriate, a daughter of Chinese parents and a filmmaker who has the freedom to travel in between reality and fiction. She attempts to establish a conscious relationship to herself, her place of birth, mother language and the state of all of the above, in the process of writing, performing, and art making.
